Nursing Clothing
Why is it a good idea to have nursing/breastfeeding clothes? Having easy access to clothing for breastfeeding is so helpful! You don’t have to worry about unclipping, unbuttoning, or getting flustered when you can get to your breast to feed your baby quickly. Check out my blog on How to Breastfeed in Public: My Advice. Here I will share with you my experience of how accessible clothing helped me to breastfeed in public without a worry.
When I was a new mum, I made sure I had clothing that was accessible for my baby. I had learnt that wearing the wrong types of clothing can hold you back, especially if you have a crying baby in your arms. So I brought the right clothes and it helped to be more confident.
I remember when I was at my grandmother’s funeral, I had my 2-month-old baby, and I would breastfeed her with no problems. My sister would ask me. “How do you do that so easily? How do you get her to breastfeed so fast?“. So I told her how. I had a V-neck dress, but I had to use a nursing cover for more coverage. But it was easy!
But overall, the best clothing was my nursing clothes. It was so much easier. You will also find that you don’t need a nursing cover. When my second baby was born, she was born in the summer. I purchased a wonderful dress that was good for maternity during pregnancy and after birth, and breastfeeding. It was so easy to use. People would say, ‘Ooh, I like your dress,’ and when I fed my daughter, people didn’t even know I was breastfeeding.
A great company that makes maternity clothing for pregnancy and breastfeeding is Bshirt. Bshirt designs stylish Organic cotton clothing for new moms.
Nursing Dresses
Dresses are great! They have that easy flow, so if you are conscious of your belly that is still deflating, dresses can be very flattering. I love feeling feminine in a dress. You can wear dresses for the summer, and in the colder months, just add extra layers.
Here are the dresses that I like:
Nursing dress in Navy/White Stripe
This design comes in 2 styles: white and navy stripes or a polka dotted white dress. It is made with recycled cotton and comes in sizes 8-18 UK
Nursing tunic dress in Plum
This casual dress comes in a range of colours. Navy, charcoal, teal and plum.
Made with cotton, so this will be comfortable on your body as well as your baby. Size 8- 22 UK, but always check that your size is in stock
Nursing Vests
Vests are great! It’s better than using an ordinary vest. This is because you can stretch them over time if you are breastfeeding. So, having a nursing vest under an ordinary top is a great idea. Also great for the summer, so easy to use. If you feel uncomfortable about the vest being too figure-hugging, then get a size bigger. Bshirt also offer returns and worldwide shipping.
Nursing T-shirts and Shirts
T-shirts are casual, quick, and easy to wear. Bshirt have a range of shirts. Short-sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts. Sometimes I buy some t-shirts too figure-hugging, so I usually try a size bigger until I am satisfied.
I have diastasis recti, which is where your abs have separated during pregnancy. I am still working on building my muscles. So when I started to breastfeed, I had more loose clothing that looked stylish as well. Now that my gap is closing (almost 2 years later), I’m choosing sizes that work for me. So it depends on what look you are comfortable with. Don’t be shy to try different styles and sizes.
My favourite t-shirt is the:
Nursing short-sleeved t-shirt in White/Black Spots
The design is such simple but stylish.
95% Organic Cotton, 5%
The great thing about Bshirt is that you can order preloved clothing. Sometimes we might not have the budget to spend a lot on clothing, but preworn quality clothing can be a great money saver. You can also get 10% off your first order if you subscribe to their mailing list.
So there you go have fun, shop around and find the best outfits for you. Always buy clothing that is breastfed friendly. Breastfeeding mum can feed 2 years and beyond, not just for newborns. Thank for stopping by and keep going mama, you are doing great
